In every big city, airports represent a public space with a very high level of activity. Between flight arrivals and departures, people get involved with each other, exchange ideas, communicate and also receive info.

The never-ending lines, very long waits and delays caused by bad weather are some of the circumstances those who wander there endure. To facilitate both the boarding and arrival of passengers on different flights has become a priority for the airports to enhance the service offered to users.

How to inform users in a direct, timely and efficient way without causing any unnecessary movement? Digital Signage is an elemental tool that offers guidance and information to passengers, 24/7, 365 days.

There are several solutions in Digital Signage that facilitate and improve both the dynamics and proper functioning in airports worldwide.

Some airports have special FIDS variants, such as Baggage Information Systems (BIDS), or Gate Information System (GIDS). Other airports use a generic term, such as the Passengers Information System (PIDS) Digital Signage is highly visible and essential in those zones since it offers the necessary information in real time regarding air traffic control, segmented in areas, with the connection possibility to different info sources that allow the timely last moment changes updating.

The implementation of Wayfinding in airport hubs offers detailed info to visitors regarding their location, by means of maps and interactive browsing routes. Interactive kiosks allow a more customized attention to the user by offering orientation modules and guidance that yield detailed info about flights, locations, etc. Both implementations can count on advertising content that create income through brands that will pay for having their retail spaces promoted in the directories and maps.

Another trend in airports signage is the implementation of video walls, since they can change the content or blend with several elements to attract global advertisers to boost sales of advertising concessions to airport tenants. Blending content with advertising videowalls can help airports create an additional flow of income.

Airports will be looking more and more for the incorporation of Digital Signage in their spaces; the updatable and dynamic communication at an airport is paramount since it keeps users updated regarding flight info, which must be constantly accurate and updated. The combination of said factors along with the capability to control all Digital Signage from a central location, the increase of digital signage premises being a trend for the enjoyment of workers and travelers won’t come as a surprise.
